Foreclosure Fraud Awareness

Posted on December 21, 2010

Apparently there are a number of con men out there preying on people who are in foreclosure trouble. They approach frightened homeowners, promising to modify loans or renegotiate mortgages in exchange for cash.
Some can actually approach people who are in line at a foreclosure avoidance clinic, pretending to be bank employees, with suits and clipboards, and misrepresent themselves for quick cash.
This is why it is imperative to only meet with a qualified attorney or foreclosure specialist, and not talk to someone who promises an easy out.

The Federal Trade Commission has some excellent resources for helping consumers spot foreclosure prevention scammers.  See here.  The FTC website also has good articles on phony foreclosure audits.
