1,700 Foreclosures Halted by Court

Posted on March 28, 2011

1,700 foreclosure actions were halted by a Cook County judge in Illinois. The law firm Fisher and Shapiro had altered affidavits after they were signed, and then submitted them to the court.

The scandal is in the same ballpark as Robo-signing, but not as bad. The article dismisses the idea that anyone’s house will be saved because of the court action. There could be disagreement on that point. Affidavits provide a safeguard. Altered affidavits could be providing more than time-saving convenience. Maybe there is more wrong with the foreclosure action.

At any rate, if sloppiness was permitted in one part of the process, it probably exists elsewhere
